What You Need Before Building a Website

Website Prep Checklist

1️⃣ Your Purpose

Decide what your website is for:

  • Selling products online?
  • Booking services?
  • Showcasing your work?
  • Getting people to contact you?

Having a clear purpose helps build the right kind of site.

2️⃣ Your Branding

Gather:

  • Logo files (preferably in PNG, SVG, or transparent formats)
  • Brand colors
  • Fonts (if you use specific ones)
  • Photos or graphics that represent your business

3️⃣ Your Content

Plan or write:

  • Homepage text
  • About Us page
  • Services or product descriptions
  • Contact information
  • Blog posts or FAQs (optional but recommended for SEO)

4️⃣ Your Domain Name

If you don’t already have one, choose and register your website address (your .com, .net, etc.). If you already have a domain, make sure you have:

  • The login to your domain registrar (like GoDaddy or Namecheap)
  • Access to your email accounts if they’re tied to your domain

5️⃣ Hosting Plan

Decide where your website will live online.

Options include:

  • Shared hosting (low-cost but slower)
  • Cloud hosting (faster, scalable)
  • Managed hosting (someone handles it for you)

6️⃣ A Call to Action (CTA)

Decide what you want your visitors to do:

  • Call you?
  • Fill out a form?
  • Make a purchase?
  • Book an appointment?

Make it clear and easy for them to take that action.
