Common Custom Site Issues
1️⃣ Site Is Down or Showing Errors
- Cause:
- Server or hosting problems
- Custom code conflict
- Database connection error
- Fix:
- Check with your hosting provider first
- Look for error logs in your hosting dashboard
- If you have developer access, review recent code changes
2️⃣ Broken Features or Functions
- Cause:
- Custom code or API integrations failing
- Recent changes to software or dependencies
- Outdated libraries or unsupported functions
- Fix:
- Identify the last change made—was it a new feature or update?
- Roll back the update if possible
- Check API keys and external connections
3️⃣ Security or Access Problems
- Cause:
- Custom login systems breaking
- User roles or permissions misconfigured
- Hacking or unauthorized access attempts
- Fix:
- Check admin access credentials
- Use backups to restore to a previous safe version
- Run a security audit (I can help with this)
4️⃣ No Developer Available?
If your original developer is no longer available, don’t worry. I can help review the site and figure out:
- How it was built
- What tech stack it uses (PHP, Node.js, Python, etc.)
- How to maintain or update it going forward
Important:
Always keep backups of your custom site code and database before making changes.
